Home Extensions in Hampton
Are you planning a home renovation in Hampton?
We have completed 23 home extension and loft conversion projects across Hampton and the TW12 postcode area.
It is a lovely area to work in — and a slightly different planning picture from much of the rest of Richmond Borough.
Hampton has more 1930s and post-war homes than most of its neighbours. Larger plots, more space to work with, and in many cases more accessible permitted development rights. That is good news if you are planning an extension.
What we do in Hampton
Our Hampton work covers rear extensions, loft conversions, and combinations of both. The typical brief is a family who want to open up the ground floor, connect to the garden, and add bedroom space upstairs — all in one project. We handle everything in-house. Design, planning, structural calculations and pre-construction support. One team, all the way through.
Planning in Hampton
Hampton falls under the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. The good news? Properties in Hampton that are not in a conservation area — and many are not — can benefit from standard permitted development rights. That means many loft conversions and single storey extensions do not need a formal planning application.
Hampton does have its own conservation areas. Hampton Village and Hampton Court Green both carry conservation area status. Properties near Hampton Court Palace also sit within the setting of a Grade I listed Royal Palace, which adds a layer of heritage consideration. Hampton also has its own village-specific design guide on top of the borough-wide rules.
Our team checks your exact position at the free consultation, before any design work begins.

A recent Hampton project
Falcon Road, Hampton TW12
A great example of what is possible on a typical Hampton inter-war semi-detached property. Generous red brick house, solid bones — but limited bedroom space and a ground floor that did not connect well with the garden.
We combined a loft conversion with a rear extension to tackle both at once. The loft conversion was done under permitted development — no formal planning application needed. That is possible on many Hampton properties, precisely because conservation area and Article 4 constraints that affect much of the rest of the borough do not apply here.
For the loft design, we used rooflights on the front slope rather than a front-facing dormer. It respects the symmetry of the pair, fits with Richmond’s approach to front roofscapes, and looks great.
At ground floor, the rear extension created an open-plan kitchen and dining space with Crittal-style doors opening straight to the patio and garden. Light, connected, and beautifully finished.

Frequently asked questions
Often not. Many Hampton properties sit outside a conservation area, which means standard permitted development rights apply — covering many loft conversions and single storey rear extensions without a formal planning application. We confirm your exact position at the free consultation.
Yes. Hampton Village and Hampton Court Green both carry conservationarea status, and Hampton has its own village-specific design guide on top of Richmond’s borough-wide rules. Properties near Hampton Court Palace also sit within the setting of a Grade I listed Royal Palace.
Hampton has more 1930s and post-war housing stock than much of the borough, and a larger proportion of properties outside conservation areas — meaning permitted development rights are more accessible here than in areas like Twickenham or central Richmond.
It depends on the property. On the Falcon Road project we used rooflights on the front slope rather than a front dormer, which suited the symmetry of the semi-detached pair and fits Richmond’s general preference on front roofscapes.
